My brother's home has been the first project I've worked on since I've arrived in Canada. The following is a rough draft of my design I'm recommending.
This first image shows the front yard. North is to the right and the yard is in shade until about 11am or noon.

This image is taken from the garage looking towards the house. An existing trellis with grape vines is visible on the right. The window will be equipped with a reflector to increase solar gain in the morning.
