It is known from
research done in 2002 by Cornell University that mycorrhizal fungi can help some trees to weather acid rain better by boosting the calcium supply available to the trees. Despite this, however, oaks can take a real beating from acid rain. You can do your oaks a big favour by spreading crushed limestone or shells from crustations around your trees. This will help supply them with the calcium they need and will boost the acorn production of those trees.

I've heard that crushed eggshells also add calcium to the soil.
Other than that, this is really good to know.
